Why does this site exist? And who is this Greg guy?
Where Else to Put It?
Many people have the equivalent of a "Where Else to Put It?" drawer, or a "Where Else to Put It?" cupboard, or a "Where Else to Put It?" corner of the garage, or a "Where Else to Put It?" folder on their computer. It’s a place to put all the stuff that passes through your life — some of which might be really important — but which doesn’t make it immediately obvious what you should do with it.
You drop stuff in there because it is important enough to do something with it, but beyond that, you’re not too sure. Maybe you’ll come back later and organize it somehow, or maybe you won’t. One of the nice things about a "Where Else to Put It?" spot is that you don’t necessarily have to do anything with it. The things you put there can just be, and that’s OK.
So why is there a whole site called "Where Else to Put It?". Excellent question, and I’m glad you asked.
Here’s the deal…
For the last several years, I’ve been building out a network of revenue-generating websites as part of my business, Mulhauser Consulting, Ltd. Now anyone who has been successfully navigating the world of web marketing for awhile will tell you that one of the key ingredients for building websites that will attract natural traffic is to focus narrowly on a specific theme. Sites full of carefully themed content generally make better search engine fodder, so unless you plan to pay Google or Yahoo! or the New York Times a fortune for advertising, you’ll generally attract more visitors from users of search engines by zeroing in on a theme than by writing content about everything under the sun.
So far, so good — and I’ve built several focused sites, some of which attract thousands of visitors per day and generate significant advertising revenue in their own right (you guessed it: from other businesses who are paying for their visitors as distinct from attracting them naturally via the search engines).
But real life isn’t so focused. Real life doesn’t revolve around a single theme. Real life doesn’t even revolve around a dozen themes or two dozen themes. Real life is messy and complex, sometimes focused and thematic, sometimes wild and chaotic.
So as time has gone on, I’ve found myself forever trying to build one more site to cover one more topic that’s of interest to me, and at last I’ve concluded that I can either keep building new websites forever (because my interests are like that), or I can say "Whoa! Hold on a minute!". I keep trying to constrain my writing and even my thoughts so they can fit within a pre-existing structure of websites and blogs, but I don’t have to do that.
I can build a website that is not narrowly focused on one single theme. I can build a website that doesn’t have to be carefully organized to help me make a living. I can build a website that is just for everything else that doesn’t fit in perfectly with the theme of one of my existing sites. I can build a website for more personal stuff, for friends and family stuff, for utterly random stuff.
Voila! Where Else to Put It? is born.
Welcome to my little corner of the galaxy. You never know what you might find here.
Who Am I?

(I seem to remember that was the translated name of a really bad Hong Kong action film I once subjected myself to. Jackie Chan is a great martial artist, but my goodness, has he ever been in some awful films…)
Your host for today’s journey through this little corner of the galaxy I like to call Where Else to Put It? is me, Greg Mulhauser. Thank you for visiting!
